WVD Host Pools on Azure Stack HCI
At the time of writing WVD host pools can only contain VMs that run on Azure or Azure Stack Hub.
If hybrid networking is setup correctly, Host Pools can also be hosted on Azure Stack HCI. This opens up a broad use-case for organizations.

Azure Stack HCI is a new hyperconverged infrastructure operating system delivered as an Azure service providing latest and up to date security, performance, and feature updates. Deploy and run Windows and Linux virtual machines in your datacenter or at the edge leveraging your existing tools, processes, and skillsets. Azure Stack HCI is uniquely positioned for hybrid infrastructure, allowing you to take advantage of cloud and on-premises resources working together and natively monitor, secure, and back up to the cloud. Host pools are a collection of one or more identical virtual machines within Windows Virtual Desktop tenant environments. Each host pool can contain an app group that users can interact with as they would on a physical desktop. Create a resource group with VMs in an Azure subscription.
